(12/06/05) Practical Strategies for Keeping Your Best Technical Talent
Resignations can be disastrous; derailing even the strongest companies and costing precious time and money. What can you do to keep your best engineers and technologists on board, particularly if you don’t have endless career advancement opportunities, huge budgets and the latest tools and toys?
“Practical Strategies for Keeping Your Best and Brightest Technical Talent”
Join other CTO’s, CIO’s and senior technology managers as we discuss
innovative retention strategies with three of Philadelphia’s most successful business/
technology pioneers. Our panelists are true “hybrids”; beginning their
careers as pure technologists and then advancing to the highest levels of
business leadership and entrepreneurialism:
Michael Krupit – Mike is a founder and Principal of Myxa
Consulting Group, a business and technology management consulting company.
Previously, he was CEO and President of Knite, Inc., a Princeton early
stage, advanced technology company. Prior to that, he served as CTO, COO
and then CEO of CDNOW, Inc. which was acquired by Bertelsmann AG.
Andrea Michalek – Andrea founded 1-800-CTO, and Unit of 1,
a networking group that supports solo entrepreneurs in the Philadelphia
region. She consults as an interim technology executive for software companies,
acting as the CTO for startups and leading key initiatives at large companies.
Her specialty is building products and services that make complex technology
problems “as simple as they should be.”
Lester “Skip” Shuda – Skip has worked with numerous start-up
companies since 1983, and founded Destiny WebSolutions in 1994, which
was named Startup Company of the year by the Philadelphia Area Enterprise
Awards. As an advisor-builder with a sense of adventure, today Skip enjoys
working with technology startups; using his experience, lessons and tools to
assist fellow entrepreneurs.
We’ll discuss proven strategies and share innovative ideas like:
- Using architectural positions at multiple levels to improve organizational
performance and reward star players - Providing management training and career paths even when promotional
opportunities don’t exist (yet) - Developing R&D roles that support and even enhance existing
resource allocations and production requirements - Making your departmental culture one that inspires loyalty and performance,
even when your company’s culture needs work
